In much of India and Southeast Asia avocado is treated as a sweet fruit, and this shake is how most people meet it — heavily sweetened, thick, sometimes with chocolate syrup at the bottom of the glass.
It is a dessert drink, and the recipe does not pretend otherwise. Cardamom is the Indian touch that keeps it from being cloying.

Blend the avocado, milk, sugar or condensed milk, cardamom and ice for 60 seconds until completely smooth and frothy.

Top with pistachios and serve immediately with a wide straw or a spoon.
Estimated per serving from the ingredient quantities above. Treat these as a guide, not a measurement — ripeness, brands and portioning all shift the numbers.
Serve immediately. It separates within about twenty minutes and no amount of stirring brings back the froth.
Sweetened avocado shakes are common in parts of South India and across Southeast Asia. Treating avocado as a sweet fruit is much older than the savoury toast version.
Use full-fat coconut milk or a barista oat milk and sugar instead of condensed milk. Coconut milk is closest in richness.
Yes, start with one tablespoon and taste. A very ripe avocado plus a ripe banana can carry the shake with almost no added sugar.
