Cookie policy

A plain description of the cookies and similar storage this website uses, and how to control them.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies — local storage and session storage — do much the same job. They let a site remember something between page views, such as a preference you have already set.

This page describes what this website stores. It is kept deliberately specific: we list what is actually in use rather than a generic template.

Strictly necessary storage

We store your cookie choice itself, so the consent notice does not reappear on every page. This is kept in your browser's local storage under the name myavocadotree-cookie-consent and holds only your decision and the date you made it.

Some of our tools let you tick off ingredients or keep the figures you entered while you are using the page. Where that happens the data stays in your own browser and is never sent to us.

This category cannot be switched off, because without it the site cannot remember that you have already answered the consent question.

Advertising cookies

This site is set up to display advertising supplied by Google AdSense. When advertising is active and you have accepted, Google and its partners may set cookies on your device to serve advertisements, limit how often you see the same advertisement, and measure whether advertisements are working.

Depending on your region and settings, these cookies may be used to show advertising based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google describes this in its own documentation, and you can review or change your Google advertising settings at any time at adssettings.google.com.

If you decline advertising cookies using our notice, we do not load a personalised advertising configuration for your visit. You may still see advertisements, but they will be non-personalised where the provider supports that.

Analytics

We look at aggregate, non-identifying information about which pages are read and which tools are used, so we can tell which guides are actually helping people and which need rewriting. This is reported to us in summary form and is not used to build a profile of you.

We do not run advertising retargeting pixels from social networks on this site.

Third parties that may set cookies

Google AdSense, for the advertising described above. Google's own privacy and terms pages explain how it handles that data.

Google Fonts, which serves the two typefaces this site uses. Fonts are requested from Google's servers when a page loads.

We do not embed third-party trackers beyond what is listed here. If that changes, this page will change with it.

Changing your mind

You can change your choice at any time using the 'Cookie settings' link in the footer of every page. Choosing again replaces your earlier decision immediately.

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Every major browser lets you delete existing cookies, block new ones, or block only third-party cookies. Blocking everything may stop some parts of this site from remembering your preferences, but the content will still be readable.

Questions

If you want to know exactly what is stored during your visit, or you would like us to remove something, write to hello@myavocadotree.com. Our privacy policy explains the wider picture of what personal information we hold and why.
