Rental is priced annually rather than monthly, because a tree's life runs on seasons, not billing cycles. A year covers a full cycle of summer heat, monsoon and the cooler months — which is the honest unit for judging whether a tree suits your space.

Age and size of the tree

Effect
The largest single factor. An established tree represents years of farm care and costs more than a young one.

Variety

Some varieties are slower or harder to grow well and are correspondingly scarcer.

Distance from the partner farm

Transport is a real cost and a real stress on the tree. Closer routes are cheaper and better for the plant.

Level of support

Higher plans include more hands-on guidance and closer monitoring.

Because we own the tree, the price carries the cost of standing behind it.

How it compares to buying

Two things make the comparison less obvious than it looks. First, nursery pricing is usually for young saplings, not for a tree that is several years into its life — the sapling is cheaper because it is at the risky end of the curve. Second, a purchase price does not include anyone answering the phone in month four.

Over a long horizon with a tree that survives, buying wins on pure cost. Over the first few years, with real failure risk, rental usually wins. The full comparison is here.

Costs to budget for beyond the fee

  • Water. Real, but small.
  • A saucer or stand if your balcony needs runoff managed.
  • Occasional feeding materials, mainly for container trees where nutrients leach out.
  • Someone to water when you travel, if that is a paid arrangement.
  • Shade cloth in the hottest regions, for a young tree's first summers.

The expensive mistake is not the fee

It is the tree that dies. Almost every avocado failure we see traces back to drainage or a missed watering stretch — both free to prevent and expensive to fix.
