Background

About the avocado tree doctor

The Tree Doctor asks the questions an experienced grower would ask before offering an opinion: what does the damage look like, how old is the tree, is it grafted, is it in a pot, how much light does it get, how often do you water, and what is the soil doing. Those answers change the likely cause completely.

Nothing here is a definitive diagnosis, and no photograph can provide one either. Plant problems are frequently the result of conditions over weeks rather than a single visible cause. What this report does is give you an ordered set of things to rule out, starting with the ones that explain most avocado failures.

How this tool works

  1. 1Work through nine steps — symptom, age, variety, origin, container or ground, location, light, watering and soil drainage.
  2. 2A progress bar keeps track, and you can go back and change any answer.
  3. 3The report weighs your answers together, so the same symptom produces different advice for a potted seedling and an established garden tree.

How to read your result

Observation

A plain restatement of what you described, so you can confirm the report is answering the right question.

Possible causes

Ranked by fit with your answers. Treat the list as candidates to investigate.

What to check and next steps

Concrete, low-risk actions. Where a step could harm the tree if the cause is wrong, the report says so.

Worked example

A two-year-old potted tree with drooping leaves, daily watering and a saucer that stays full produces a report headed by waterlogging, with a soil-moisture check first and repotting into free-draining mix as the likely next step.
